Frontier launches new lateral turning system
Frontier Medical Group has launched its new Toto Touch automated lateral turning system at the 2017 European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel meeting in Belfast. MediWales reports that Toto Touch is an update on the original Toto system which was designed to support clinicians in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers.
Developed for acute and home care patients, the new Toto Touch unit offers a number of enhancements over the original Toto system including:
- Smaller, lighter and fully digital control unit for precision timing of care
- New simple to use and intuitive user interface, allowing multiple operating mode settings to enable clinicians to tailor packages of care for their patients
- Numerous safety features including a state of the art alarm monitoring system
- Lower running costs and quieter operation, 60% more energy efficient than the original Toto control unit
- 110 Volt US model available early 2018
The Toto Touch lateral turning system is a unique, patented system developed to support clinicians and carers in the regular turning of patients. Toto tilts the patient from side to side by inflating to a 30° angle. The 2014 International Pressure Ulcer guidelines recommend the use of the 30° tilted side lying position. The equipment fits any bed and is designed so that it can be placed under any existing mattress (viscoelastic foam, air, alternating). It automatically turns patients at user defined intervals, supporting carers and offering a unique approach to individualised patient turning.
According to the NHS Stop The Pressure research, seven hundred thousand people in the UK are affected by pressure ulcers each year and between 80 to 95% of these cases are preventable using the recommended SSKIN bundle approach, which entails ensuring patients have the right support, early inspection to detect and prevent injuries, keeping patients moving, incontinence and moisture and nutrition and hydration.
Frontier’s existing Repose pressure area care products and the introduction of Toto Touch to their portfolio will help clinicians and care givers deliver proven care bundles with both clinically and cost effective products.
Simon Jackson, Managing Director at Frontier Medical Group said “We are delighted to have launched Toto Touch at the 2017 EPUAP Congress in Belfast. In developing Toto Touch we listened to our customers, understood their needs and developed the new control unit around these. Regular patient turning and the use of the 30-degree tilt is well accepted as part of pressure ulcer prevention strategies. With a maximum user weight of 190kg, and an XL (Bariatric) option, Toto Touch is a highly versatile system while still cost-effective. This is an exciting development in our Pressure Ulcer Prevention product range and we are working on further additions and expansions to our product portfolio.”
